THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

The Office of Public Works

To mark the centenary of the Easter rising in 1916, the Royal Irish Academy and the Office of Public Works (OPW) commissioned the artist David Rooney to create portraits of the men and women involved for the book 1916 Portraits and Lives. On 12 May 2016 the Royal Irish Academy and the OPW officially launched an exhibition entitled ‘1916 Portraits and Lives’ in Kilmainham Gaol. The exhibition will be on display until 31 October 2016.

The OPW also maintains the building that houses the Royal Irish Academy, Academy House at 19 Dawson Street.
