The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Olga Piskareva

RCSI

Olga Piskareva is a cancer researcher. She leads the Cancer Bio-Engineering research group and acts as Foundation Year Head at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is experienced in molecular and cell biology, biotechnology, biomedicine and science communication. 
Her research is focused on neuroblastoma biology, an aggressive malignancy of early childhood. Olga aims to understand how cells communicate in the tumour microenvironment and to utilise those insights to identify an Achilles' heel for neuroblastoma for novel anti-cancer therapy. She has a strong interest in patient and public involvement in research. Her team runs various outreach activities to promote public understanding of science and raise awareness about childhood cancers.
