The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Pauline Mellon

UCD

Pauline Mellon did her undergraduate work at UCD graduating with a BSc (Hons) and MSc in Mathematics, after which she received the Travelling Studentship in Mathematical Sciences from the National University of Ireland. Her doctoral work was at the University of Tübingen, Germany and UCD. She held a permanent position in the Department of Mathematics at Maynooth College (now University of Maynooth) for a number of years before returning to a lectureship in UCD. She is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. She is also currently Vice President of the Irish Mathematical Society and a committee member of the Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences Committee of the Royal Irish Academy.
