Dr Angela Byrne will give the second lecture in our series accompanying the exhibition 'Prodigies of learning: Academy women in the nineteenth century'
The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. Princess Yekaterina Dashkova (1743-1810), Mary Somerville (1780-1872), Caroline Herschel (1750-1848), Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849), and Margaret Stokes (1832-1900) were all made Honorary Members of the Royal Irish Academy in recognition of their scholarly achievements in their respective fields. This exhibition celebrates their important contributions to learning and knowledge in the nineteenth-century.
