We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Diarmaid Ferriter is professor of Modern Irish History at University College Dublin and author of numerous books, most recently The border: the legacy of a century of Anglo-Irish politics (Profile Books, 2019) and Between two hells: the Irish civil war (Profile Books, 2021). He is a regular television and radio broadcaster and a weekly columnist with The Irish Times.
