We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Is Ceann Scoil na Gaeilge, an Léinn Cheiltigh agus an Bhéaloidis sa Choláiste Ollscoile Baile Átha Cliath í an tOllamh Regina Uí Chollatáin. Is iad na réimsí taighde atá aici ná athbheochan na Gaeilge, na meáin Ghaeilge agus an cultúr cló, agus tá cuid mhaith foilsithe aici ar na hábhair seo i bhfóraim náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta. Ar na foilseacháin is déanaí dá cuid tá Saothrú na Gaeilge scríofa i suímh uirbeacha na hÉireann 1700-1850 (2017) agus í ina comheagarthóir ar shraith aistí a foilsíodh mar shraith in Éigse, Ollscoil Náisiúnta na hÉireann; agus Litríocht na Gaeilge ar fud an Domhain (2015), mar chomheagarthóir ar staidéar cuimsitheach ar litríocht na Gaeilge i gcomhthéacs domhanda. Bhronn Fondúireacht Ollscoileanna Éireann-Cheanada Ollúnacht Chuairte Shinsearach uirthi i 2011-12. Bhunaigh sí an MA: Scríobh agus Cumarsáid i 2006 agus ba bhall í de Bhord TG4 2007-12. 

Professor Regina Uí Chollatáin is the Head of the UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore. Her areas of research include the Irish language Revival, media and print culture and she has published widely nationally and internationally. Recent publications as co-editor include the study of urban Irish language writing in Ireland in Saothrú na Gaeilge scríofa i suímh uirbeacha na hÉireann 1700-1850 and co-editor of the first comprehensive study of Irish language literature in a global context, Litríocht na Gaeilge ar fud an Domhain (2015). She was awarded a Senior Visiting Professorship from the Ireland Canada University Foundation (2011-12). She founded the MA: Scríobh agus Cumarsáid [Writing and Communication] in 2006 and was a member of Bord TG4 2007-12.
