We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

Using Dictionary of Irish Biography material

The Dictionary of Irish Biography (DIB)  is an authoritative and invaluable national resource. Its online edition features nearly 11,000 biographies of notable individuals who have made a significant contribution to the country. The DIB entries, ranging in length from 200 to 15,000 words, are subject to copyright and permission must be granted for their reproduction by the Managing Editor.
