As the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science sought views on a consultation on the Sourcing of Science Advice for Irish public policymakers and government departments, this online discussion investigated redefining the relationship between researchers and policymakers and the Academy believes it is imperative that the experience of the research community should strongly inform developments in this area.

Attendees will had an opportunity to pose questions to the panellists and views shared will help inform the Royal Irish Academy submission to the department on this topic.

The creation of a new Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and the foundational role of public health expert advice in managing the COVID-19 crisis make this the ideal moment to reimagine and strengthen the connections between research and public policy in Ireland. This seminar is the third in the series and will focus on how the learnings, recommendations and suggestions from previous sessions can be implemented so that we can ‘make it happen’.
