THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. Where

Academy House. 19 Dawson Street

A one-day symposium on the issue of educational disadvantage

This symposium, which includes national and international scholars, as well as policy-makers, advocates and beneficiaries of affirmative action programmes, interrogates the issue of educational disadvantage and asks: “Is the education system itself indirectly promoting and perpetuating inequality? Is it now time to take a closer, more comprehensive and rigorous look at the lived reality of educational disadvantage? Is it time to recognise that policy responses must be multi-faceted and meaningfully resourced, work in concert with those at the coal face and acknowledge that this is not an issue schools alone can address”
