The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Richard Schoch is Professor of Drama at Queen’s University Belfast. He was elected a Member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2021. Schoch is the author of ‘A Short History of Shakespeare in Performance’, ‘Writing the History of the British Stage’, ‘Not Shakespeare’ and ‘Shakespeare’s Victorian Stage’, all published by Cambridge University Press. He led the AHRC-funded project Performing Restoration Shakespeare, in partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe in London and the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. His book ‘The Secrets of Happiness’ has been translated into six languages and has connected him with new audiences worldwide through television, radio, print and podcasts.
