The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Rónán Ó Muirthile

IADT

Rónán Ó Muirthile is the Head of Department for Film & Media and Head of the National Film School at IADT in Dún Laoghaire. His Department has a student cohort of over 500 full time students studying all aspects of the screen and media industries.  He is responsible for all aspects of academic delivery, quality assurance, budget and administration and strategic development.

He is an active practitioner. His producer credits include all genres of TV; high end, award winning documentary films, international formats and some of the best-known and loved prime time programmes. The documentary 'Flann O'Brien: The Lives of Brian' which he wrote & produced was awarded the IFTA for best single documentary in 2007 and 'Connected', a twenty part series he produced, won the IFTA for best Constructed Reality in 2015.
