We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Sam Moore

ATU

Sam has over 20 years of experience in field archaeology and in academia. He has been a lecturer in Applied Archaeology in the Institute of Technology (now Atlantic Technological University) since 2006 and has also taught various modules in archaeology at NUI Galway. He has written or contributed to a considerable number of journals, local history publications, books and guides, including archaeological guides to Counties Sligo and Longford and wrote a book on the Archaeology of Slieve Donard. Sam was Research Associate of Prehistory and Ethnography with the University of Ulster and was Visiting Scholar to Middle Tennessee State University. He has considerable archaeological excavation and survey experience, including three seasons with the Discovery Programme as part of the Upper Lake Shannon Settlement Project; assistant director on research excavations with NUI Galway at Granardkill in Co. Longford and Mullaghfarna, Co. Sligo. He is currently completing his PhD on the Carrowkeel-Keshcorran passage tomb complex in Co. Sligo.
