The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Assistant Professor in Sociology UCD

Sarah Carol is Assistant Professor in Sociology at University College Dublin. She earned her doctorate from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In her research, Sarah focuses on ethnic inequalities covering topics such as well-being, discrimination, and social integration. Her work has been published by Routledge, Social Forces, Frontiers in Public Health, International Migration Review and many other journals. In 2018, she won the Distinguished Sociology of Religion Journal Award. Her findings have been featured on international media platforms such as Deutsche Welle, Arte, Hurriyet and phys.org
