Shirley Markley

IT Sligo

Dr Shirley Markley is an archaeologist and a historic building consultant. She has been the director of a commercial archaeological consultancy since 2000. Her research focuses on medieval building construction and the later medieval settlement record in Ireland. Her PhD discovered an unrecognised medieval construction technique (earth mortared stone construction) which is now helping to explain the enigmatic absence of domestic settlement in the Irish later medieval settlement record. She has been a lecturer of archaeology since 2005. Dr Markley is Programme Chair of the Applied Archaeology courses in IT Sligo's Department of Environmental Science.
