The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Síobhra Aiken is a lecturer in Roinn na Gaeilge agus an Léinn Cheiltigh (Department of Irish and Celtic Studies) at Queen’s University Belfast. She has published widely on the social and cultural history of twentieth-century Ireland in various academic and public forums. Her monograph Spiritual Wounds: Trauma, Testimony and the Irish Civil War was published by Irish Academic Press in 2022. She is currently working on a project, funded by the Royal Irish Academy, on multilingual responses to Ireland’s revolutionary period. She was also the 2022 O’Donnell Fellow in Irish Studies at the University of Melbourne and has a keen research interest in the Irish diaspora.
