The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Station event to commemorate Seán MacDiarmada

A special event will be hosted to remember Seán MacDiarmada, after whom Sligo Station was renamed in 1966.

1916 Centenary1916 Centenary

The event will take place at MacDiarmada Station on Saturday 23 July at 11am as part of Iarnród Éireann's 1916 commemoration programme, in partnership with the Royal Irish Academy, OPW and Ireland 2016.

The event will be addressed by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council and Nora Gillen, historian.

Light refreshments will be served. All welcome.
