The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Harry Clarke Cotton Bag

A cotton tote bag featuring an allegorical depiction of Ireland as a woman, by the world-renowned stained glass artist and illustrator Harry Clarke (1889-1931). It is taken from the Memorial Records (1914-1918), which was illustrated by Clarke and compiled by the Committee of the Irish National War Memorial to preserve the names of over 49,000 Irishmen who lost their lives fighting in the Great War. A limited edition of 100 copies was published, one of which is held in the RIA Collections.
