A History of Ireland in 100 Words, by Sharon Arbuthnot, Máire Ní Mhaonaigh and Gregory Toner was published by the Royal Irish Academy in October 2019.
Covering a vast range of subjects, including murder, bee-keeping, star-gazing and hair-styles, the aim of the book was to explore the history of Gaelic Ireland in the words used by its people. Subsequently shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards 2019, A History of Ireland in 100 Words has attracted extensive media coverage since its launch, including a cover feature in the Irish Times Saturday magazine.
A stunning mobile exhibition, based on the book and entitled 'A History of Ireland in 10 Words', opened at dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire, in September 2020. In celebration, the authors invite you to join them for a 'virtual gathering', exploring Irish words, tales and history in a series of short presentations followed by open conversation for which questions from the audience are warmly welcomed.
