The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Thérèse Murphy

Thérèse Murphy is a professor of law at Queen's University Belfast. Her field of expertise is human rights law; she is particularly interested in questions concerning health, science and technology. She is chair of the European Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation, a network of more than 40 European universities involved in training the next generation of human rights professionals. She is a member of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies, Ireland's National Research Ethics Committee on Medical Devices and the Moral and Ethical Advisory Group of the Department of Health in London.
