The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

TJ McIntyre

UCD

Dr. TJ McIntyre is an assistant professor and Head of Knowledge Exchange at the UCD Sutherland School of Law where his research and teaching focuses on information technology law, civil liberties, and crime in the online environment. He holds a BCL from University College Dublin, an LLM from University College London and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. He qualified as a barrister in the Honorable Society of King's Inns, Dublin where he achieved the Antonia O'Callaghan Prize for Advocacy, and was later admitted as a solicitor by the Law Society of Ireland. He is also a member of the New York Bar. He is chairman of the independent civil liberties group Digital Rights Ireland and has given evidence to Oireachtas Committees on a number of occasions on the law surrounding data protection, online harassment and state surveillance.
