The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Vikram Pakrashi

UCD

Vikram Pakrashi works on the topic of mechanics, with a focus on dynamics. His work is often applied to de-risk built infrastructure systems (e.g., bridge, renewable energy). He works in an interdisciplinary manner and often with industrial partners, assimilating fundamental mechanics, monitoring sensors and analytics to deliver maximum impact. Vikram translates his research to practice, creating guidelines and recommendations. He leads the UCD Centre for Mechanics and leads a happy and inquisitive team in School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University College Dublin.
