The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Yensi Flores Bueso

Molecular Biologist UCC

Yensi Flores Bueso is a passionate Molecular Biologist working in Synthetic Biology for developing Cancer Treatments at the CancerResearch@UCC labs. She recently secured a Marie Curie Postdoctoral fellowship to immerse herself in the field of in-silico protein design at the Institute for Protein Design, University of Washington, Seattle. Yensi also engages in projects that promote inclusion, diversity, equality and access (IDEA) in academia, through science outreach and communication, and through science policy. As a member of the Global Young Academy, she leads and collaborates in international projects that promote IDEA through science education (with special focus at building capacity in countries with weaker scientific institutions and also through initiatives that challenge the concept of  Scientific Excellence and current research assessment systems. She is a steering board member of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).
