Following a keynote address by Mr. Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, and a short Q&A session, there were two panel discussions. The first focused on the impact of the war in Ukraine on UN Security Council decision-making and dynamics, the reinvigorated calls for Security Council reform, the role of the General Assembly and other UN bodies in responding to the war, and Ireland’s role during this time. The second panel explored the role of elected members on the Security Council, and the particular opportunities and challenges for small member states, including in terms of bringing emerging issues to the attention of the Council.
