Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts
Discover Ireland’s early manuscripts, including the Psalter of St Colum Cille (Columba), known as the Cathach, dated c. A.D. 560-600, and Lebor na hUidhre (the Book of the Dun Cow), the oldest extant manuscript completely in Irish, and many more.
The Irish language manuscript holdings of the Academy have been catalogued in detail in the descriptive catalogue published under the title Catalogue of Irish manuscripts in the Royal Irish Academy (28 fasc., Dublin, 1926-1970). For more information on the printed catalogue read Elizabeth FitzPatrick’s A brief introduction (Dublin, 1988).
