The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Mike Young (ed.)

Mike Young, an exploration geophysicist, joined the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) in 2004 to manage the first of the Tellus regional geoscience survey projects. He was Director of GSNI from 2011 to 2014, when he also served on the Geosciences Committee of the Royal Irish Academy. Previously he managed national and industrial geophysical exploration projects throughout the Middle East, and in Africa and Latin America. He has published articles on geophysical exploration in arid environments, regional geoscience mapping and groundwater assessment and co-edited A Guide to the Tellus Data
