THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. Raymond Gillespie MRIA

09 February 2024

We are deeply saddened by the death of our editor and colleague, Raymond Gillespie MRIA, on 8 February 2024. Raymond was appointed to the editorial board of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas in 1994, was chairman of the board from 2016–2021 and was co-author of the atlases of Belfast and Carlingford. Beyond this, his significant contribution to the Atlas programme reached far and wide. It is with great fondness that we remember his intellect, vision and friendship and our thoughts are with his wife Bernadette Cunningham.
