The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Dictionary of Irish Biography

Dr Patrick Maume is a graduate of UCC (BA English and History, MA (Thesis) History) and QUB (PhD Politics, PGCHET) who has worked for the DIB since 2003. He has taught history and politics in UCD and QUB (where he held three research fellowships 1993–4, 1995–8, and 1998–2001), and has published many articles and book chapters on nineteenth and twentieth-century Irish history, as well as biographies of Daniel Corkery and D. P.Moran. He has published hundreds of entries in the DIB, mainly on political, literary and religious figures and with particular reference to Northern Ireland (where he lived for almost two decades). He has a strong interest in the history of Irish journalism and print culture and is a member of several associations and presents regularly at the annual conferences of the Society for the Study of Nineteenth-Century Ireland and the Newspaper and Periodical History Forum of Ireland.
