We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

About New Survey of Clare Island

The Royal Irish Academy’s New Survey of Clare Island, a unique multidisciplinary endeavour that together with Robert Lloyd Praeger’s first Clare Island Survey provides an invaluable body of research informing future conservation of natural and built heritage of Ireland and Europe.

The New Survey of Clare Island is a unique multidisciplinary project, the overall aim being to assess the environmental changes that have taken place over the last hundred years on Clare Island off the west coast of Ireland.

Together with Robert Lloyd Praeger’s first Clare Island Survey, the New Survey provides an invaluable body of research informing future conservation of natural and built heritage of Ireland and Europe.
