The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Heritage Week 2023

12 – 20 August 2023

Join us in the Academy during Heritage Week for a cultural programme which includes the Library’s lunch-time lecture: ‘A century of Irish stamps’ with Stephen Ferguson, An Post Archivist and Museum Curator. Visit the Library’s current exhibition 'Window on the Irish soul – 100 years of Irish stamps', organised in collaboration with An Post Museum and Archive. The Irish Historic Towns Atlas (IHTA) are leading tours of some Dublin suburbs: South-East City, Drumcondra, Kilmainham, Rathmines and Clontarf. IHTA will also be launching a short video: ‘Placing our heritage’ previewing the forthcoming Irish Historic Towns Atlas of Cork, due to be published in November. Grangegorman Histories will present an illustrated lecture by Raymond Gillespie, MRIA  ‘Grangegorman: a thousand years in the making’, focusing on the history of the unusual landscape that was Grangegorman before the institutions.
