The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Jay Winter

Jay Winter teaches history at Yale University. He is the author of Sites of Memory, Sites of Mourning: The Great War in European Cultural History (Cambridge University Press, 1995); Remembering War (Yale University Press, 2006) and Dreams of Peace and Freedom (Yale University Press, 2006). His biography René Cassin et les droits de l’homme, co-authored with Antoine Prost, was published by Fayard in February 2011, and will appear in English in 2012. He is editor-in-chief of the three-volume Cambridge History of the First World War, to be published in 2014.
