The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Ann Devitt

TCD

Ann Devitt is Associate Professor in the School of Education Trinity College Dublin.  Her research and teaching lie in the area of language and literacy education and technology enhanced learning.  She is PI on the Family Digital Literacy project, an Irish Research Council funded project in collaboration with NALA (the National Adult Literacy Agency) exploring the use of technology to support family literacy and develop literacy skills of parents and children.  She is Academic Director of Learnovate , the research and innovation centre focused on educational technology funded by Enterprise Ireland and hosted in TCD.  She is an associate researcher with the CONNECT SFI centre focusing on equity of access to digital resources for education.  As regards language and language education, her work is situated in an integrated view of language, looking to value and develop individuals’ multilingual repertoires incorporating oral, sign and written language across all media, traditional and digital.
