The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Maria Shmygol

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow University of Galway

Maria Shmygol is an academic specialising in early modern English drama and textual editing. She is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the University of Galway, working on a project about seventeenth-century English drama and geography. Her editions of early modern plays are published or forthcoming from Oxford University Press, Arden / Bloomsbury, and Manchester University Press. She is Joint Deputy Chair of the British Shakespeare Association, a UK-based educational charity with an international membership. Her previous research was supported by funding from UK and Swiss national funders and by short-term fellowships at the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Library of Congress in the US.
