The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) will open our 2024 DRI Community Archive Scheme, an initiative that offers free DRI membership, digital preservation training, and support to underfunded community groups and organisations.

The time, effort, and skill that goes into creating community-based archives is often undertaken by individuals or groups working on a voluntary basis or with little funding. This shared digital cultural heritage content is at risk of being lost if not digitally preserved for long-term sustained access. As a publicly funded repository for Ireland’s social and cultural data, the DRI believes it is important to make long-term preservation of digital materials open to a wide range of organisations. The Community Archive Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for community based archival initiatives to gain DRI associate membership – and all related benefits – for the length of time it takes a group to add their collection to the Repository.

To find out more about the DRI Community Archive Scheme, please join us for our virtual launch event on 30 Aug 2023. Attendees will learn about the benefits of the Scheme, how to apply, and will have the chance to hear reflections from past winners, Tulsk History Society
