We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to announce that they have launched their first Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policy.

The policy is divided into two documents. The first short document is an overview of the EDI principles that are central to DRI’s work. It includes sections on what the DRI does, why equality, diversity and inclusion matters to the DRI, and the principles of the policy. The second document is longer and entitled ‘Actions and Implementation 2023–2025’. It includes sections on; 1. DRI and the role of Archives in Society; 2. how we developed the policy; 3. the EDI definitions and principles we are following; 4. how the policy will be implemented; and 5. the sources that informed the policy.

On the launch of the EDI policy DRI’s Interim Director Dr Lisa Griffith said:

‘Drafting the EDI policy gave DRI an opportunity to articulate many of the values that we see as core to our work. We are delighted to share this policy with our members and the broader digital preservation community. We look forward to achieving the actions set out in the Policy. The implementation of this work will benefit current and future Repository users.’

This work was undertaken by a DRI staff working group made up of DRI staff that included Kathryn Cassidy, Lorraine Grimes, Natalie Harrower (replaced in January 2022 by Lisa Griffith), and Áine Madden. In June 2022, the policy was developed further at an EDI Workshop facilitated by Policy Analyst and Consultant Olwen Dawe. In May 2023, we hosted an external consultation EDI workshop, where we invited DRI members, the broader digital preservation community, and other interested groups to provide feedback on the policy. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the participants of that workshop for their contributions and the valuable feedback they provided.

You can find more details about DRI’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy on the ‘About DRI’ section of our website.
