New DRI Member: the University of Limerick

12 March 2024

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to announce that the University of Limerick have joined as our latest member.

The University of Limerick offers a vibrant and pioneering library service providing high quality scholarly resources and services in an environment that encourages reflective and collaborative inquiry. This is illustrated by the work of the UL Special Collections and Archives Department of the Glucksman Library whose digitisation of collections in the UL Digital Library range from papers relating West Clare Brigade and periodicals covering The Limerick Chronicle, the Magazine of Magazines and the Garda Review,

Ciara McCaffrey, University of Limerick Librarian and Library Director said:

“We are delighted to join the Digital Repository of Ireland as members. As the national digital preservation and discovery infrastructure for digitised cultural heritage material, the DRI will allow us to share the University of Limerick’s unique cultural heritage collections on both a European and global scale. Having our digitised collections available through the DRI will allow a world-wide cohort of researchers to engage with UL’s unique collections while also showcasing treasures of the mid-West region.”

DRI Director Lisa Griffith added:

“We are thrilled that the University of Limerick has decided to join DRI. The University is doing exceptional work, and in particular the UL Digital Library offers a stellar range of digital cultural heritage material relating to Limerick and further afield. Collections such as the Shannon Development Archive and Iris an Gárda offer a glimpse into the diverse histories of the mid-west of Ireland. We look forward to working together with the University to showcase these collections to national and international audiences.”

The University of Limerick joins a growing number of higher education archives that are providing access and long-term preservation for collections through membership of DRI.
