John Bell's Theorem Crescent officially unveiled

A new street sign honouring one of the 20th century's greatest physicists has been unveiled in his native city.

Bell's Theorem Crescent - named after John Stuart Bell, who grew up in Tate Avenue - was officially opened yesterday by his family and Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon.

The Belfast Telegraph covered the ceremony  and spoke with John Bell’s sister-in-law Nancy Bell and sister Ruby McConkey at the unveiling of the street in John’s name.

The Belfast scientist is perhaps best known for proving that Albert Einstein was wrong in his views about quantum mechanics in November 1964. However, Bell's groundbreaking work continues to have an impact on modern physics today, and he had been in line for a Nobel Prize in Physics when he died in 1990.
