I have a degree in Environmental Sciences and PhD in environmental plant Biology. I followed my PhD with a further 14 years of research in plant-environment interactions, largely relating to responses of natural vegetation, crops, and forest trees to environmental stresses such as limited water availability. Through my research, I gained experience in communicating to diverse audiences and responding to changing international, European Union, and national environmental and climate policy. Later, I joined the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), first working in international and European Union environment policy, and then in climate adaptation, where I coordinated the submission to Government of 12 sectoral climate adaptation plans and worked closely with Ireland’s four Climate Action Regional Offices. I moved in 2021 to the Office of Government Procurement (OGP) to take up a Technical Advisor role in green and sustainable public procurement. Green and sustainable public procurement can help Ireland move towards a more circular economy, and form part of the public sector leading by example on climate action. In this role, I work closely with a number of government departments, including DECC, and agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency.
