The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

'Women writing Ireland'

Listen to a panel discussion with four Irish women writers to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849).

 

This panel discussion commenced with a brief talk on Maria Edgeworth's life as a professional writer by Claire Connolly MRIA, School of English, UCC.

Margaret Kelleher, Professor and Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at UCD, then chaired a panel of Irish women writers who discussed Edgeworth's legacy:

  • Claire Kilroy
  • Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin
  • Éilís Ní Dhuibhne

Women Writing Ireland preceded a two-day conference at the Trinity Long Room Hub, TCD on 7 and 8 December 2018 which was organised by TCD's School of English.
