The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Dr Mary Muldowney

Historian in Residence Dublin City Council

Dr Mary Muldowney is Dublin City Council Historian in Residence for the North West area, having recently moved from Dublin Central. She has been a member of the Grangegorman Histories Working Group since 2019. Widely published, particularly in the areas of labour history, women's history and the local history of Dublin, she is working with a sub-committee of Grangegorman Histories to develop an oral history of the institution in the twentieth century, focussing particularly on the relations between St. Brendan's Hospital and the surrounding neighbourhood. Mary is a member of the organising committee of the Irish Labour History Society and is currently co-editor of the Society's peer reviewed and internationally recognised journal Saothar. She is also a local resident.
