Remembering James Rooney, Project Co-ordinator, Grangegorman Development Agency

14 May 2021

Earlier this week, we learned the very sad news of the sudden death of our Grangegorman Development Agency friend and colleague, James Rooney.

James worked on the Grangegorman project for nearly ten years. He was a mechanical engineer of international repute, having previously worked on major projects in Ireland, UK, Africa and Asia. He worked on many aspects of the overall project in Grangegorman, in particular the delivery of core projects such as the North House. His most recent success, however, was the delivery of the Lower House, a challenging prospect that James committed to with passion and determination. Despite the multiple complex challenges this project presented, he delivered the recovery of a landmark building for TU Dublin, for Grangegorman and the city.

James was a gentleman and possessed of a phenomenal work ethic. He was hugely knowledgeable and a great source of wisdom and advice for all his colleagues. He was generous with his time and interest in the work of Grangegorman Histories and he will be greatly missed.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all of his colleagues, past and present.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis
