EU Commission Agreement with the UK

06 October 2023

Pat Guiry PRIA comments on the UK's association to the Horizon Europe research programme and Copernicus.

Responding to the news of 7 September that the United Kingdom's association to the Horizon Europe research programme and Copernicus has been agreed with the European Commission, Professor Pat Guiry, President of the Royal Irish Academy, said:

'This is very welcome news for all researchers across the UK, including our many Academy members in NI. This agreement gives certainty to all researchers in the UK and NI who will now be able to participate in the Horizon Europe programme on the same terms as researchers from other associated countries. They will be able to lead consortia, from the 2024 Work Programmes and onwards –including any 2024 calls opening this year. This is also excellent news for researchers across the EU, especially those in Ireland who collaborate more with researchers in the UK than with any other EU country.'
