We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Professor Louise Richardson: 'Universities in the 21st Century'

Professor Louise Richardson, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St. Andrews and incoming Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, delivered the 2015 Leaders in Higher Education Address on Thursday 5 November at a special event in Academy House, on the topic 'Universities in the 21st Century'. 

A native of Tramore, and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and Harvard University, Professor Richardson is considered one of the world's foremost experts on terrorism and counter-terrorism. 

This year marked the second year of the Leaders in Higher Education Address series, which was established to acknowledge the contribution of leading figures in higher education in Ireland and abroad. The 2014 address was delivered by the former Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn, TD.
