Member Profile: Alan Stitt
04 July 2018Alan Stitt, internationally recognised ophthalmology researcher, was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy on 25 May 2018.
He is the first McCauley Chair of Experimental Ophthalmology at Queen’s University Belfast. He is internationally recognised for his translationally orientated research in diabetic retinopathy, retinal angiogenesis and vascular remodelling. Professor Stitt's team has identified several key pathogenic mechanisms, targets for drug development and the potential for stem cell therapy for a range of sight-threatening retinal vascular diseases. He holds a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award.
