Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson is Pro Vice Chancellor for Engineering and Physical Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast. With more than 20 years’ international experience at the interface between safety and security, he has held fellowships with NASA and the US Air Force. He helped to establish cyber security labs for the UK Civil Nuclear industry. In 2021, he was retained as an expert witness to the Grenfell Tower fire inquiry where he was responsible for analyzing the digital and analogue communications failures that exacerbated the loss of life. In 2022, he is responsible for the development of pragmatic means to ensure the ethical use of machine learning in weapons systems with Thales for UK MoD. He is a Fellow of the Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Aeronautical Society and the British Computer Society.
