We welcome queries about our collections of books, manuscripts, prints and drawings. Just Ask a Librarian.

Digital Images

Digital images may be ordered through the library. Please complete the Order Form for Digital Image/Microfilm, sign the copyright declaration and submit it to the library in person or by post. You may also submit a scanned version by e-mail.

Readers may take their own photographs free of charge if the item is copiable (see above) and on condition that they sign a form declaring that the material photographed is for the purposes of research or private study only. Forms are available as hard copy or can be downloaded here. They should be completed and signed by the librarian on duty before any photography is undertaken.

Permission to Reproduce Academy Material

Permission should be requested from the Academy before reproducing in any format any material on which the Royal Irish Academy may hold copyright, e.g. pages from manuscripts, drawings, etc. Please complete and sign the Permission to Reproduce Form and submit it to the library in person or by post. You may also submit a scanned version by e-mail.

Photocopying/Scanning

Photocopying or scanning is carried out on printed items which are judged copiable (i.e. not vulnerable to damage), and in accordance with copyright regulations. The library reserves the right to refuse to photocopy/scan certain items. Manuscript materials are not photocopied as a matter of policy.

Please complete and sign the Request for Photocopy/Scan form and submit it to the library in person or by post. You may also submit a scanned version by e-mail.

Microfilming

The Irish manuscript collection is available on microfilm.

To order duplicates of existing film, printouts or scans, please complete the Order Form for Digital Image/Microfilm, sign the copyright declaration and submit it to the library in person or by post. You may also submit a scanned version of the form by e-mail.
