The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

With the recent publication of Professor Dame Louise Richardson’s Report on the Consultative Forum on International Security and the Government’s imminent publication of its implementation plan for the Commission on the Future of the Defence Forces, The Royal Irish Academy’s Standing Committee for International Affairs are taking this time as an opportunity to stand back and survey Irish security and defence policy in a rapidly changing European security environment. This hybrid seminar will be composed of several expert presentations, followed by a wide-ranging, moderated Q&A session.
