We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

ARINS will host one of the Irish Times debate semi-finals on 1 February 2024.

The Irish Times Debate semi-finals will take place in four different venues - The Cadet School in the Curragh Camp, University College Dublin, and Rathgar Methodist Church, with the second one taking place here in the Royal Irish Academy on Thursday, 1 February.

The debate will begin at 6pm sharp, with a reception beforehand from 5.30pm.

In association with ARINS, the motion for the evening will be 'This House Believes that unification is not in the best interests of the people of the 26 counties'

Some of Ireland’s most talented young debaters will tackle a wide range of motions relating to today's society. The four semi-finals in this year's series will run over two weeks, from January 25th to February 2nd. Three of the debates are open to the public and anyone who is interested is welcome to attend. The first debate in The Cadet School can be attended only by invitation.
