The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Senior Lecturer in Law and Assistant Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (AHSS) UL

Lydia Bracken is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Assistant Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (AHSS) at the University of Limerick. She researches the areas of child and family law and European human rights, with a particular focus on the legal recognition of ‘non-traditional’ and ‘new’ families. She is the author of two books and numerous high-impact articles in this area. In her research, Lydia regularly collaborates with civic society organisations and stakeholder groups and she has been invited to present her research to both the Oireachtas and international bodies to inform the direction of law and policy proposals.
