The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Rob Kitchin is a professor in Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute and Department of Geography. He is the (co)author or (co)editor of 32 academic books and (co)author of over 200 articles and book chapters. He is a ERC Advanced Investigator (2022-2027) for the project ‘Data Stories’. He has been an editor of Dialogues in Human Geography, Progress in Human Geography and Social and Cultural Geography, and was the co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Encyclopedia of Human Geography (1e). He was the 2013 recipient of the Royal Irish Academy’s Gold Medal for the Social Sciences.
