The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

1916 Portraits and Lives wins the IDI Award for Best Illustration (David Rooney) and Highly Commended for Printed Book Design (Fidelma Slattery).

The IDI (Institute Designers Ireland) Awards were presented on 26th November 2015. 1916 Portraits and Lives won in two categories:

  • Best Use of Illustration in Design: David Rooney
  • Highly Commended (Printed Book Design): RIA graphic designer Fidelma Slattery

1916 Portraits and Lives is a selection of 40 articles from the Royal Irish Academy’s Dictionary of Irish Biography, dealing with 42 men and women whose careers, in one way or another, were deeply involved with the Easter rising of 1916.
